19.7x24 in ~ Painting, Acrylic
The work is part of a series "CAFÉS" which has 31 paintings as of December 28, 2019. These are genre scenes with an exchange between several characters. The canvases are accompanied by a text bouncing off the work, like a song where the painting is the music and the words are the lyrics. These texts are collected in several published works. The text that accompanies this canvas: Cafes are the cathedrals where I pray with a drink in my hand. We celebrate improbable encounters. We communicate in cash with those who drown their sorrows in a glass of pastis. We celebrate the sacredness of differences and the memory of loved women by observing from the corner of our eye a beautiful dreamer at her table. There the impossible stories are realized and the sorrows are erased. Very close to the bar, perched on a high cathedral, we create the world of the first day. Miscreant, I drown my moods in a glass of whiskey. I toast to the passing of time wishing the devil green diarrhea. I toast to God who is hiding and whom I can smell in the aromas of Arabica. In my cathedrals the percolators serve as a censer.
