25.6x31.9 in ~ Painting, Graphite, Oil
The work is part of a series "CAFÉS" which has 31 paintings as of December 28, 2019. These are genre scenes with an exchange between several characters. The canvases are accompanied by a text bouncing off the work in the manner of a song where the painting is the music and the words are the lyrics. These texts are collected in several published works. The text that accompanies this canvas: Come the silk days when the living arrive. Forgetting their lofty dreams of dead glory, they get drunk on ambrosia, joys and complaints that flow in them with the languor of living. They get drunk at the poet's cafe, laughing. The bar and its light have the taste of absinthe, Breton is reborn speaking of Manet whom he exhausted and the old devil passes between the words he delivers. Silence and their doubts engrave strong waters. The centuries intersect and the gods drown. Under the porches, lifes said to be dead appear at the bottom of the glasses we drink. Muses hate the sound of strong souls. Furious, they run away, slamming the door.
